May 15, 2021 – Sacramento, California: DUI Driver Killed 1, Injured 2 in Highway 99 auto accident on Saturday morning in a multi-vehicle crash.

California Highway Patrol stated a Chevy Silverado was traveling northbound on Highway 99 in the slow lane at high speeds early in the morning when its 19-year-old driver swerved off the roadway to avoid traffic. This maneuver resulted in the truck colliding with a chain link fence before careening back across the highway.

In doing so, the truck crossed the entire highway before colliding into the center divider and coming to rest facing the wrong direction in the number one lane.

Per CHP, a passenger was ejected from the passenger seat onto the highway.

Unfortunately, a Honda Odyssey that was also traveling northbound on Highway 99 could not avoid colliding into the truck and impacted it head-on. Its driver was tragically killed in the crash.

Soon thereafter, a Nissan Murano driven by a 35-year-old swerved into the center divider in an effort to avoid colliding with the already crashed vehicles stopped in the roadway. In the process, a passenger was ejected from the Nissan. The passenger was taken to a hospital to be treated for life-threatening injuries.

The DUI driver killed 1, injured 2 in this incident, and was taken to a hospital for emergency medical treatment. The driver was arrested on suspicion of DUI and vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated.

This incident is still under investigation.

In the early morning of May 10, 2021 a large tree fell across the US-101 near Redcrest. The tree blocked traffic in both directions and caused several traffic accidents in a short span of time.

A white 2011 Kenworth semi-truck pulling a trailer was traveling southbound on the US-101 in the rightmost lane when it collided into the fallen tree, causing it to cross into northbound traffic, and careen off the other side of the road where it eventually stopped after going down an embankment. The semi-truck’s driver was tragically pronounced dead at the scene.

Fresno’s Marc Alexander Reichle was driving a red 2020 Jeep Cherokee northbound on the US-101 when he likewise collided into the tree, eventually coming to a stop in the northbound traffic lanes. Fortunately, he was ininjured.

Shortly thereafter, Ruben Anthony Sepulveda of Redway, who was driving a white 2017 Toyota Tundra on the southbound US-101, also collided into the fallen tree, eventually coming to a stop in the southbound lanes of traffic. Just after coming to a stop, a 2018 Ford F-150 driven by Mark Allen Taylor of Fortuna collided into the tree and then the Toyota Tundra before rolling onto its side.

Ruben Anthony Sepulveda was transported to St. Joseph Hospital in Eureka with severe injuries. Mark Allen Taylor reportedly suffered minor injuries, but the investigation is still underway.

The US-101 was temporarily closed to traffic. The CHP Garberville Area is investigating this traffic collision. Why the tree fell across the US-101 remains under investigation.
